DANCE SAFARI IRELAND - INTO THE WEST
23 to 30 May 2020

Picture
Journey and dance with friends, with a focus on dance and exploration led by Jane. Stay in unique places, see wonderful things and dance inspired by our environment.

Ireland is a heart place for me. It has taught me many things and I return regularly. In this trip we will take our inspiration from the beautiful Dingle Peninsula and Ring of Kerry. Weather permitting you'll be able to walk on wild beaches, see dolphins and visit the mystical Skelligs. If it rains this is an area full of music in the pubs and wonderful crafts in the shops - Louis Mulcahy pottery, the Dingle Music shop or maybe Indian statues in Cahersiveen.

Our first night in Dublin I'll take you to one of my favourite restaurants in Temple Bar. From our hotel near Heuston station (for an easy get off tomorrow morning), I'll lead you in a walk along the Liffey and across iconic Hal'penny Bridge.

Next day it's the train to Tralee and transfer to magical vegetarian Phoenix Guesthouse in Castlemaine, run by chef and dancer Lorna Tyther, you can expect not only healthy, wonderful vegetarian food but also post-dinner dance sessions. Weather permitting we will dance in the garden, and we can organise (optional) taxis to Inch Strand, where the film Ryan's Daughter was shot, and to Dingle Town where you can join a boat tour to spot famous local, Fungi the Dolphin, or visit Harry Clarke's beautiful stained glass windows in the local church.

Then a private minibus will take us to Cahersiveen on the Ring of Kerry, a less touristy place with great pubs surrounded by the incredible seascapes. Walk the coast, or explore the Old Barracks Museum. Weather permitting the boat from Portmagee to the Skelligs is easily arranged - see the puffins, seals and if you're lucky as I was the wild dolphins. Mary will do you breakfast or porridge and eggs before we walk down the high street to the local yoga studio for bodywork and dance.

On our last day we'll get the first bus out of town to Killarney where we'll say au revoir. Some may choose the easy bus journey to Cork to fly back. Some may choose to come with me back to Dublin from where you could fly back, or stay another night to get the ferry back. The choice of return travel to England us yours.

Prices are based on sharing - triples in Dublin, twins elsewhere. I try to put folk with someone they know but it's not always possible. If you buddy up with a mate on booking, I'll honour that.

Prices are quoted in euros but a deposit of £100 will secure your booking. Please read my terms and conditions, particularly with regard to cancellations and travel disruption, and complete a booking form as soon as possible after emailing me your booking request.

I will be inviting participants to travel with me by train and ferry from Manchester. Tickets are not yet available but should be in the region if £40 to £50 single, and I will co-ordinate a booking when I can. Travellers from other destinations will be met in Dublin.

YOUR ACCOMMODATION
In Dublin you'll stay one night in a 4 star hotel within walking distance of Heuston railway station and easily reached on the LUAS pubic transport system. Details will be given on booking.

Our 3 nights near Castlemaine will be spent at the vegetarian Phoenix Guesthouse, which is a wonderfully relaxing place with organic garden and beautifully decorated with artefacts from around the world.  Some people may be quite happy to relax there, but we can organise taxis to walk on Inch Strand or Dingle Town.  Breakfasts are buffet style with muesli, yoghurt, omelette and cheeses, fruit and home-made scones.  We will dance in the restaurant which has a wooden floor, and if weather permits in the garden.  The Phoenix is away from the centre of the village and there are no shops around - it is a complete escape - so take what you might need or want. We can also walk around the local lanes, and up towards the mountain behind the guesthouse  And I'm sure they won't mind if you want to play the piano.

In Cahersiveen we'll stay at the Sive Hostel, basic accommodation with shared bathrooms.  Breakfast is cooked for you and you can use the kitchen whenever you want to make drinks or meals.  There is also a cosy lounge with fire in case of bad weather.  And  balcony to sit and watch the sunsets.  It's a really friendly place and the pubs in town and full of life.  The town has all the shops you could need too - from food supplies to gifts to take home.
