MAZAZIK DRUM CIRCLE Monthly internet drumming classes led by Jane Wass
I don't claim to be the best drummer in the world! But I've been drumming for many years, firstly with Adam Warne, Guy Schalom and Tim Garside, and currently on my trips to Egypt with Hamada Fathy and Saleh Dahab. As with my dance work, our drumming is greatly informed by my - and our - travels. And also by the belief that the real benefit of music is in our own making of it, rather than spectating.
But what I've tried to build in the Mazazik Drum Circle internet classes is the opportunity for you to learn and be inspired at home, and also be confident enough to join in with occasional group music making.
Pay £5 on or before the 15th of each month and I'll email you the link to a class of approximately 45 minutes featuring exercises, drills, new material as well as revision and a monthly playalong session.
Rhythms you will learn are from North Africa and the Middle East - principally Egyptian and Nubian. But in 2018 we also took inspiration from a journey some of us made to Morocco. And in 2019 there'll be lots of Nubian rhythms.
This year's Mazazik Festival will be a change for you to join in a Moroccan and Nubian inspired workshop with Tim Garside and myself. Watch out for news soon of 2019 get togethers.
