CREATIVE ESCAPE in Egypt
4 nights by the sea in Hurghada, 3 nights on the West Bank of Luxor
30 January to 6 February 2023
30 January to 6 February 2023
aTime to do what you love in beautiful places.
Quiet time to reflect, create, just be.
But not alone. You will eat together, explore a little together, maybe decide on some trips you'd like to do together.
But this is a slow holiday.
4 nights by the Red Sea in Hurghada, then 3 nights on the West Bank of Luxor in a villa on the edge of the desert in a local village.
The price is based on all single rooms for maximum peace in accommodation which is characterful, clean and picked by me for its location.
The hotel in Hurghada is in an Egyptian area (not one of the huge tourist resorts), with a small private beach, lovely staff and in a great location for exploring on foot. Many people make the mistake of thinking winter is swimming weather. It is if you are hardy - but it's not for me!
But the sun will be warm, the waters blue to turquoise, and this is great walking weather.
The first four people to book will get sea view rooms.
We will arrange evening meals at local restaurants for those who would like to join. Anybody wanting a quiet night in, the hotel does great, very affordable food.
In Luxor you will stay in a beautifully designed villa in a local village with roof terrace looking out over the desert. We will also arrange creative time at some beautiful spots we know.
And included in your price is a sunset felucca trip and visit to a local village home.
Here you can decide to self cater, get a takeaway or eat out.
This whole holiday is about what the group wants to do - what you want to do - and I will do my best to facilitate it.
That and having a schedule that doesn't have one!
A morning or afternoon free every day at your accommodation to write, paint, crochet, craft .... the choice is yours. Then continue maybe with a mango juice at a Family Resort in Hurghada for a taste of Egyptian life, maybe on a boat trip. In Luxor on a terrace overlooking the banana plantations or at a temple-side cafe.
This is not a holiday for you if you want constant action.
It is if you just want time to be.
There is no dancing but I will offer short morning bodywork/stretching sessions in Luxor.
The price is £450 and includes:
*4 nights single room in Hurghada
*3 nights single room Luxor West Bank
*transfers Hurghada airport to hotel
*minibus or taxi transfers between Luxor and Hurghads
*sunset felucca trip
*village visit
It may be possible to offer a discount for 2 friends sharing together.
To make enquiries or to book please email mazazik_uk@hotmail.com.

BALADI LIFE, BALADI DANCE
A week's dance residential based on the West Bank of Luxor
8 to 15 February 2023 at the Gezira Garden Hotel
8 to 15 February 2023 at the Gezira Garden Hotel
A week to explore possibly the most popular, and often misunderstood, Egyptian dance.
Baladi in Egypt signifies local and here in Upper Egypt that means the dance and music of this region, with its roots and traditions in farming and working closely with the surrounding antiquities.
Drums, rebaba, mizmar, kawala, oud, tahtib, ghawazee, fellahin. Learn more, and explore how they are relevant to your own movement.
As well as one and a half hours of dance each day with me, you will also;
* visit a local village
* watch, and sample, the traditional way of cooking some staple vegetarian dishes in a local kitchen
* visit local weavers and potteries outside Luxor
* dance with local drummers
* have the opportunity to buy a drum and learn some rhythms
* enjoy a musical concert by local musicians
* explore the West Bank landscape on foot
* take an evening stroll on the East Bank, through the souk and visit a local juice bar.
Accommodation will be at the Gezira Garden hotel, so popular with those of you who have stayed there, and is full board.
This is a good trip for those of you new to Egypt.
Partners, friends and family are also welcome to join. When we are dancing there is plenty of space for them to enjoy the sunshine with a book, or brave the swimming pool (it will be cold in February).
The price is £490 sharing, or £570 single, with a £50 discount for non-dancers.
This includes the activities above, plus return transfers from Hurghada airport to Luxor.
The dance workshops this week will run as a course. There may be some space for Luxor-based dancers to join, but only for the complete course and not on a drop in basis. Please get in touch if you are interested.
Please note, I don't arrange workshops with local dancers. As most of you know, I don't consider the teaching of dance through choreography beneficial. But should there be a chance to watch some, of course we'll take it.
