AND STARTING 1 NOVEMBER - a course of 7 weekly Zoom sessions for complete beginners.
Tuesdays from 19.00 to 19.40 GMT / London time
As the evenings get darker, start your dance journey with me from the comfort of your own home.
Each class will start with a warm up, cover movements and bodywork principles, and introduce you to fantastic music.
As this dance is low impact, and doesn't involve a lot of footwork and movement through space, it is very well suited to doing in your living room. You will:
*relax and loosen the body
*strengthen your core
*develop flexibility
*ground and centre for calmness and reduced anxiety
*build arm strength
*get some gentle cardiovascular work to increase stamina
*feel great after!
But above all - you will enjoy dancing!
Numbers will be limited so I can take a look to make sure everyone is moving safely. But I will not be able to supervise through the screen in the way I can in person, so by taking this class, you take responsibility for your own safety.
If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected].
And book via the Paypal button below.

THE NILE.
The waters that flow through Egypt are its lifeblood, and many of the beautifully fluid movements of this dance mimic this epic river.
Through them, we develop fluidity and power. Try them tonight.
Monday 14 June - LUXOR.
A city on everyone's bucket list because of its fabulous sights. But it is also a wonderfully relaxed and happy place just to be. And there's always a party going on.
Let the sun shine in! Try the dance of Luxor tonight.
Monday 21 June - CAIRO.
One of the most vibrant cities of the world and known for its bellydance clubs. But there is another dance - Cairo baladi - the dance of the people of the city.
Not overtly sexual but naturally sensual. Try it tonight.
Monday 28 June - DIVINE DANCE
Egyptian dance has ancient roots, whether we look to the ritualistic dances performed in the temples, or watch the dances that have evolved ou of the folk cultures of people who worked the land.
In the modern dance, our posture and poise, elegantly earthy and simply beautiful, is inspired by the past. Try it tonight.
Price £5 per class, or £15 for all 4 paid up front

Baladi - a term in the dance world which I think has lost its way. It's become part of a marketing circus, a hashtag mishmash.
If you love Egypt, you'll know this.
In this workshop I'm going to ask one very simple question. What IS baladi - and what isn't it.
After many years of deepening my relationship with Egypt I've learnt that ...
Baladi isn't raqs sharqi.
Baladi isn't bellydance.
Watch the great baladi stars of the past, Fifi or Soheir and you'll feel it.
And the dancers in Cairo today don't have it. I'm quite vocal about the fact I'm no fan of most of today's dancers, just as most Egyptians aren't.
And the irony for western dancers who want to dance baladi, the more you search for it, the more studying and training you do, the more you dance away from it.
Good news isn't it?!
Join me to feel it, and to explore what this dance can bring you.
And as well as dancing, I'm going to show you some clips of It.
This is the first in a series of Baladi workshops.
Numbers will be limited. Priority booking to my Zoom and Dance In Your Own Home internet dancers.
If you'd like to book a place please email [email protected].
Price £5 payable by BACS transfer. Email or message to book your place when you will be sent payments details.

So this week in East Meets West, we talked about veil work.
This is a film I made with very basic veil movements during a dance trip to Turkey. It's a piece we work on in my From The Heart strand. And as well as the dance, in the film I wanted to give a feeling of the beautiful Grenadine Lodge in Turkey, and the area of Dalyan, where we were staying.
As I said, one thing you will never be led into doing in one of my sessions is what I call the yashmak move (half covering the face with veil) which I think should stay in the 1970s Frys Turkish Delight ad! I think most, if not all, of you agreed with me. Shows a lack of understanding of the word veil and the women who live veiled, I think in all our opinions, not just mine.
